The Community Sponsored One Card Draw!
THE CARD DRAWING IS NOW CLOSED! Sponsors can still post to receive their card, but no more requests will be answered. Thank you for stopping by, and hopefully I will have another of these in a month!

This session's sponsors are: [info]oldewolfe, [info]anher, [info]jasra, [info]caerwynx, [info]qotcpcf, [info]fireriven, [info]dulcinbradbury, [info]beth_bernobich, [info]arielstarshadow, [info]nambroth, [info]lightgatherer, [info]miintikwa, [info]tonithegreat, [info]akaihyo, [info]kyburg, [info]ytaya, [info]schizkitty, [info]wolflady26, [info]sythyry, [info]solcita and [info]phinnia. Your cards will be pulled whether you make the window or not!

Thanks to the people above for their generous gifts! If you donated during the donation window but are not listed above, please, tell me so I can add your name. Remember, if you didn't comment on the Donation post, you aren't listed above. If you want to change that, go comment there!

The Rules
1. This draw is capped at two hours. Any request that falls outside that window will be ignored unless you are a sponsor.

2. Anyone can ask for a card, Friend, friend, stranger or unfriend. No matter who you are, I will shuffle the deck with a honest prayer to the Universe to give you what you need. If you think you're on my bad side but still want a card, ask. I will do my best by you—I promise.

3. You may repost your results anywhere you like as long as you point back here so that people can investigate and perhaps watch for the next One-Card Draw. If you wish to help me promote the cards, you can also link to balancecards.org, but it's not necessary.

4. When you talk about the cards, remember to call them by their proper Name: they are Balance Cards, not Tarot, not Psycards, not I Ching cards, not runes or anything else. Names are important!

Suggested Use
1. As a theme for meditation or exploration.

2. As a reflection of your past month.

3. As a reflection of your coming month.

4. As a way for the Universe to tell you what it needs from you.

Warnings
1. I do not cherry-pick the card for you. What I draw is random. You may get a bad card; be prepared.

2. My one-card reading for you does not constitute legal or medical advice, or any other formal form of counsel. What you choose to do based on the card is your responsibility, not mine.

How do I get my card?
Comment on this entry (if you have no Livejournal, you may comment anonymously). If you feel comfortable, tell me what you're planning to use the card for. I'll reply to you with your card. You may get the same card as someone else, since I re-shuffle the deck for every querent—if this happens I will pay extra attention to the mental image that accompanies the card to give you an individualized account.

What is this all about?
The Balance Cards are a personal revelatory deck I created to address the imbalances in the world and bring them into harmony. The One-Card Draw is a service I offer as frequently as I have the energy, but I also do full readings. Consult the Balance Cards website for more information.

Ask and receive.

Tumbling, startling, beautiful, unexpected, unlikely: the Snowflake seems like a meteorological impossibility, needing such specific conditions to come together.

When it does, though, it is beautiful, the unlooked-for beauty that melts if you try to catch it.

You can't create Snowflakes in your life. But you can keep your eyes on the sky now and then, and if a Snowflake drifts past, you can enjoy it. Just don't grab it... some things are meant to be observed, and not to be possessed.

I shuffled the deck for you. I cut it, one half in one hand, the other half in the other.

Facing one another: the Maze, reversed, and the Key rightside up.

Do I really need to say more?

Is there a thing in your life you feel trapped by? Because I have found you in the Shackles, and.. from this, you really can't release yourself.

So, here's the part that's hard: stop trying.

This doesn't mean I want you to give up. You might be a prisoner, but that doesn't mean you must lie down and die. It just means for now you need to stop beating your fists bloody on the door. It's not going to open that way. You need to wait... conserve your strength. Look for the opening to make a get-away.

Until the opportunity comes, turn your mind to other things. You need to be strong, to take the chance when it comes... and in order to be strong, you can't be tearing yourself down for not escaping the inescapable situation. Focus on the good as much as you can. Tell yourself you are capable... that you're biding your time. And then... when it comes... you'll be ready to go.

Patience. Patience. The door is shut. A window will open.

Wow, I'll take this as a sign. I haven't been in LJ much lately and hit my friends page for a rare occasion and there is your draw.

I am having difficulty explaining yours, but... it's the Snowflake. Which is usually a card of... natural things coming together, good things, to form a work of beauty.

I guess, then, the message is: the things that are all around you, the OMG EVERYTHING!!! things... these are all good things in disguise, and they are working to create you, a thing of beauty. So maybe, as they are beating on your door and piling on you, step back and think: "This is creating me, and it will make a more truthful, beautiful me."

If that makes sense?

I shuffle. I shuffle some more. I see Transcendence go by. I see the Shackles. But this is not the time to stop.

At last, I shuffle no more when one card sticks itself so far above the deck it almost dares me to look at it.

This card is the Mercenary, who in pursuit of money often loses sight of the essential things. So much lost in the deck: the potential for spiritual growth, the potential to be trapped and locked into a cage of your own thoughts. And here, on top, is what seems to be a warning.

Enjoy all that comes to you, in terms of the material. But be careful in the seeking...!

This image then, of the Mother: not other people's mothers, not even your own. But you as the Mother, the nurturing, life-bringing force. What in your life should you be cradling in your arms? What should you be growing? What would make you happy to walk alongside, holding hands?

You have to slow down, to nurture things. You have to know what's worth growing and what needs to be pruned. You have to be willing to look at it and decide.

Peace.

That's your card. And I feel like it's not a meaning, it's a word. It's being said to you, with a smile and a gentling movement of the hands: "Peace. Peace. Everything will work out as it should. You don't have to handle everything yourself. Patience. Peace!"

(Followed, with a laugh: "I'm working on it, daughter! Give me some time!")

I was not going to ask this round, but I feel called to it again...

My basic question revolves around not *whether* to trust my instincts, but how to put that into practice. (And it relates both to a specific issue, and to a more general one of scheduling/creating more space in my life/etc. Answers relevant to either or both would be most useful)

Well, it's a very practical answer I get then, in the form of the Loom, which calls us to make. Create. Plant your rear end on a chair and just do it. It doesn't matter if you make a mistake... mistakes can be plucked out and fixed. What matters it the momentum. One you get going, it'll be easier to keep going.

You are going to create a tapestry. It might not be the best tapestry, but by the good lord, it will be yours and it will be mighty! Go to it!

*checks* Looks like a lot of hard work.

You asked about four months... I find it interesting then, to get the Plow, which is the card of get-up-and-go-do-itness, the card of activity, of getting out there under the hot sun, laboring and coming home exhausted after a good day's work. Because four months gives you a season, and so it seems like you're being asked to plow a field so you can harvest the fruits of your labor in the future.

So, if you want good things to come to you next season, I encourage you: lay down the seed for it now. It'll be hard work, but you'll be glad of it later. :)

*frowns a little* So I shuffle, and one card falls out, leaving another exposed, and I am left with the potent image of a War against a Vampire.

Vampires in my deck represent people or situations that drain all the living energy out of us: they take more than they give, and they might be beautiful, attractive and make us feel very good about ourselves, in the long run they hurt us more than they help us. And War... war is a card of strife.

But there's hope here, because people and situations are rarely born vampires... they have to be... well, you know, sucked on by one of the undead. I would caution you to study when something turns from 'gorgeous friend you like hanging out with' into 'gorgeous undead fiend who likes sucking you dry' and try to prevent the latter from developing. Be honest with yourself... if it's beginning to sleep late and look a little pale around the cuffs, you probably need to take steps. :)

I'll say! I shuffled and ended up with two cards, and it's hard to get more conflicted than having the Fallow Field next to the Tomb!

The Tomb, though... that's the card of situations without any potential at all. But tombs often lie under Fallow Fields, so it's easy to mistake them for one another.

The Fallow Field is the card of allowing things to... take root, unexpected things. The card of being patient and allowing those things to happen. Our lives these days are very rushed, very 'do it yourself'y, very active and focused on productivity. Leaving a field fallow can feel like the end of possibilities, like you're not doing anything, like you're being lazy... in short, you can mistake it for a Tomb. But there is wisdom in letting things lie for a while... and it takes strength and courage to know when to step back and say, "I've over-farmed that field. It's time to let things rest. We can come back to it later."

Would you believe I got four cards while shuffling for you?

Sticking out of the deck, refusing to go back into it: The Sibling (literally, family).

Falling next to the deck: Coin (material wealth/money matters) facing the Cuffs (the bonds we choose for ourselves, that we can escape but don't want to).

And on top of the deck, facing me, the Beast, the card of carnal/material world matters.

I have no idea if all these things are related: if your family is causing you problems based on money, management of their life situations and passions, or being involved in things that they refuse to stop being involved in. But if I had to say, focus on something, it would be: things of this world. For now!

My sympathies, truly... my mother had breast cancer twice (and survived!), so I understand a little of what you're going through.

I promise I did not pick your card on purpose, but for truth you got the Womb. This card is the card of potentials yet to be developed: of life developing, but not yet born. Of new things about to happen. In your case, I think we can both agree that this is asking you to reflect on your mother, your relationship with her... and what it means to you, to be a maker yourself. A call almost, to bring forth something new from this situation, something as good as you were when you came forth.

I wish you and your mother both good luck in this difficult time. *hug*

I hope this helps your friend... tell her to let things go and trust the divine to bring what she needs. :)

It has been. But I think you'll look back on it and see that it made you stronger, more thoughtful... more capable. Because the Key slid out sideways while I was shuffling, and in this deck the Key is the ultimate card of personal power. I don't know if you ever read or saw The Secret of Nimh, but the back of Mrs. Frisby's amulet said, "You can unlock any door if you only have the key."

This is the Universe's promise that you will have the Key. You might not know the door it belongs to yet, but it's there, shining, waiting.

Despite shuffling the deck carefully, the Meadow reappeared for you after I just drew it for [info]synnabar. But it's a different meadow. More like... a Secret Garden kind of meadow, because it was facing inward, away from me.

For you, I think this is a suggestion that you need a quiet place you can visualize yourself going, instead of freaking out. The Meadow is perfect: it's beautiful, green, the perfect place to lie down and look at the sky or the stars. It does not require work: no planting is to be done here, no sowing, no pruning, nothing. You come here to rest, to let things exist as they are, to acknowledge that sometimes that's how life is. And it's okay. Okay to be scared, okay to be upset, okay to have reactions to things, but that doesn't mean they need to be your masters. When you feel them trying to put the collar and chains on you, step back. Go to your secret meadow, behind the beautiful gate, the one you get to through the charming trail in the forest. The birds are singing. There is a breeze, redolent of flowers. You might even spot deer, if you stay long enough, breathe at the pace of trees.

Imagine it. Stay here for as long as you need. Know that not everything is under your control, and that's not always a bad thing, and not your fault.

When you're ready, come back out to face what needs to be faced, and do what needs to be done. But remember: it's not all bad stuff lurking in your mind and heart, waiting to ambush you. Sometimes it's a meadow, a good place, a retreat. Go there instead of down the dark path.

*hug*

I think questions this specific cause the deck to decide to have fun, because its answer, based on the card I drew, is, "A place you'd enjoy bringing someone home to." (The card was the Lover.)

Granted, that's a touch flippant, but there's some wisdom in it. :)

Well, the Unicorn is a good sign, then. This is the card of... spiritual purity, and there is some sense of "focus on the immaterial, rather than the material."

But I think, more directly, I would say: those things that meant something to you in childhood... not the immature things. But the eternal things: your trust in the goodness of the universe, your faith that there is beauty and joy waiting just around the corner, like the shining hide of a hidden unicorn... go back to those things. Revisit them.

Which is all very well to hear, but... some practical suggestions: Read books that make you smile. Go to or rent movies that make you laugh. Spend time with people who make you happy. Get out: don't let yourself stay home too much. Go to parks. Touch trees. Go to tea or coffee shops and look at people. Meditate. Take baths... light incense or nice-smelling oils. It's very hard to sustain yourself in our world, which is increasingly stressful and difficult. Think of doing at least one thing a day that makes you smile or laugh as medicine, as preventative medicine, and do it.

So I'm six months into a new job, and I'd like a Balance Card. There has been a heck of a lot of change, and I've been insanely busy lately. I'd love some hints of the future. Hoping for some calm, but given what my job is like that may not be possible.

Hmm. Well, when I parted the deck for you I got both War and the Path, which suggests you're heading in the direction you must, but that it's going to be difficult. You already know that, I guess. All I can tell you is to pull on a flak jacket, drag your helmet down over your gorgeous hair and slog on!

For you... the Mirror. Invitation to self-reflection... or the intimation that the answer to your question is you, or in you.
