Making Stuff
When I'm sad, I make things. In this case, I made cake.

Lemon Zest

Lemon Juice

Lemons, lemons, lemons. Denuded lemons (I made this on Thursday, so does it count as a Naked Thursday thing, Razz, Stoker?). Lemon juice. Lemontastic. Lemonariffic. Lemonpallooza.

Sifting

I sift the easy-to-clean way.

Icing

Mmm, lemon icing with lemon zest and lemon juice.

Mmmm

Porn we can all appreciate. FOOD PORN. Well, except for the diabetics, to whom I apologize. Virtual sugar doesn't count!

I also go a little progress on "Hadara," in the form of applying frisket.

Frisket

Drawing Patterns

There's liquid frisket and film frisket. The idea's the same: you put something down on the paper and paint over it, and then when you're done, you remove the dried frisket liquid or the film and you have white paper under it. Hadara's robe needed patterns, so I started drawing them onto the frisket film using a book with examples of decorative patterns from different cultures.

All On

And here's the piece with all the frisket applied. I'll get to painting over it soon.

Stardancer Home.

I've been wanting to make a cake like this recently. Used to make them all the time when I was young.

The recipe is amazing. I've never made anything from that particular book that wasn't amazing.

I was going to save you a piece, though I wasn't sure if you'd be able to eat it. I figured you could give it to your mom otherwise. :)

I offer you organic vanilla ice cream drizzled with 30 year old balsamic vinegar in exchange for some cake!

Really? Two great tastes that taste great together? Interesting.

(Sadly, I have neither ice cream nor balsamic vinegar worthy of trying it out with, and I have to fit into a bridesmaid's dress in three weeks!)

Admittedly, using the 30 year old balsmic (instead of the 20 or even the 6 year old Oregon one) would probably be considered somewhat overkill in most cases. However, when I tried this 30-year one, it immediately made me think "Ice cream, I want vanilla ice cream", so...

And,yes, it was wonderful. With good ice cream, at least.

Oh, here is the Cooper Mountain Wine Balsamic Vinegar.

You know when you've been on a *chan too long when the image capped as FOOD PORN actually draws a lot of dirty mental imagery, especially after seeing the pic in question. I'm polluted beyond recognition, I think.. *self face palm*

Actually, I wouldn't be able to eat the delicious cake even though I must. Going to get screened for celiac sprue in the near future. But if it was gluten-free, I'd OMNOMNOM it happily ^.^

It's a fairly easy one to make, a variation on a 1-2-3-4 cake. In this case, with buttermilk, lemon juice and lemon zest. :)

I've tried frisket fluid, but not the film. Is it easier to use? Less complicated? Does it bond so closely with the paper that it pulls paper with it when you try to take it off? :)

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]haikujaguar

I could never make fluid work. Ever conceivable problem you could have with it, I've had. :P

The film on the other hand... awesome. No, it doesn't bond with the paper. It's not... sticky like that. It's sticky like silicone, sort of.

Think of parchment paper, more than wax paper.

You mean there is an easier way to do that than meticulously cutting out tracing paper and lightly taping into place? And it doesn't ruin the paper? Or get pigment under the edges? REALLY?

[info]haikujaguar

Observe! You still have to meticulously cut it out, but it sticks on its own. And it doesn't ruin the paper, honest. :)

I'm beginning to think the biggest problem with liquid frisket is that it might have a really short shelf life... and inevitably by the time you buy it, it's already past due.
