This is an exciting sign that cyberfunded creativity works! You should include a mention of it in your post to the community, when you get the full-on promo message finished.

It occurs to me that that's 24 copies of a book sold that... can be read for free online.

That is pretty amazing.

Yes. It's vital evidence that people really like to have something they can hold in their hands, especially for favorite items. That's an excellent sign for cyberfunded creativity, which relies strongly on personal connections and people subsidizing favorite material.

For me, a large part of it is that I know in this case, the book itself is going to be a lovely work of art.

I think having free copies out there can help sales in general, too, but that this may be a book particularly suited to this sales model, because of the art side of it. Online art is less similar in quality to print art, while the words are in many ways the same in both formats--but art makes me more prone to see a book as an object I want to hold.

I would have bought the book anyway, But I might have ... put it off longer? ... if it were just about the words?

Oh, cool, they're putting you together with Nurk! (At least today.) That's probably my fault. "Customers who bought Aphorisms also bought Nurk."

I'm going to do a review when I have the book in my hands, so I can enthuse over the layout as well. O:>

Edit: Oh, hey, the next Bujold is ready for pre-order... How can I get this to give me free shipping? *grin* (Go get your drinking chocolate.)

Yeah, I find it kind of funny, that pairing, as Ursula Vernon and I are pretty diametrically opposed, from an artistic standpoint. :)

Hmmmmm.

No, you're not, actually -- your styles are different, yes. You're the tall and elegant and fwoosh, and she tends to the short, roly-poly, and amusing. But the sense of color that you both bring to your art, and the details and care in them? I think those are actually similar, though the, er, details of the details is different. O:>

Also, you both do sketches that are just plain Fun sometimes, which is a "feel" that is shared.

Glee, fantastic! And like Ysabet said, this is certainly exciting news for the cyberfunded creativity market. Congrats! :)

Got Ya! Hopefully I make it 26 for the evening. I'm salivating in anticipation over having a copy in my hands. I'll also be making an unlocked journal post about print, as well. I have accolades to lay upon my copy of 'ghost'. Printer is MIGHTY.

<3 Congratulations.

I am up to 27! *dance*

And is not the print gorgeous? My entire family grouped around it and stared at it in silence.

Bought mine Saturday afternoon - not sure what number I was *laughs* but I look forward to it!

I know I can read it online for free, but I like to show my support (when a donation isn't possible - why I pay for songs via iTunes etc. rather than download them for free somewhere), AND I like to have the book in my hands. I love books - the printed words, the creamy pages, all of it from cover to cover. Also, I prefer to read something I can carry with me, and feel like things "sink in" more when I'm reading from pages, as opposed to reading on a screen. And it's wild to actually KNOW the person who wrote it; 20 years ago that would have been unheard-of for me. Plus, the art----! :D :D :D

Congratulations!
