As an Aside--
--the tabletop RPGs I run? Are freaking awesome. It's like the Princess Bride: romance and comedy and adventure-with-style, where the good guys always win but with a few scars to either brag about or use for emo. There are magical gender-switching corsets, anthropomorphic sloth people and bazaars filled with cool stuff to try to barter away or steal. Your character is always important--sometimes moreso than he wants to be!--every NPC you talk to has a personality and a bad accent, and you can usually talk, drink or entertain your way out of problems. There are always people to tumble or fall madly in love with (though you'd better use birth control or I'll roll a die to see if you end up with a spear in one hand and a baby under the other), the prince is as likely to need rescue as the princess, and if your ribs don't hurt from laughing by the end of the session, I won't have done my job. Entertain me enough and you'll end up in a drawing on my picture reel... for no fee!

My online text roleplaying is like living in one of my novels... I think you can imagine that on your own.

So I might not have luck with MMPORGs, but roll dice with me and you'll have a great time. And I'm proud of that.

Rah! And that is the way it is suppose to be!

I hope someday to have a chance to game with you. Those are the sort of games that I love to play in, run and hear about.

I can picture you as a GM and I'm sure your games would be awesome. I kinda miss RPGs but really don't have the time for them anymore.

Yes! I run similar games steeped in a sense of history, where ancient languages hold dark secrets and things are rarely what they seem: the acrobats may be freedom fighters and the Duchess is really the Duke. Oh, and did I mention the codpieces?

I miss running games...

Wish I could roll the bones with you!

When?

I wish that we lived close enough to make it possible for us to share a game facetime. I don't think I'd care who was running it or where it was set. Our tastes are congruent enough that we'd have a fine time anywhere.

I'd love to play in one of your games sometime. I get so few chances to just be a player.

This past game I've been running had one player who made himself a blue-collar worker as a character. Seriously. Laborer guild. Every skill was optimized towards making money as a basic laborer, and enjoying himself in bars.

Good guy, don't get me wrong. He also filled in the 'scholar' position for the group, because he liked to tell stories at bars - people buy the storyteller ale. And from the stories he tells and listens to in bars, he knows just about everything in the kingdom and just about every thing possible about every monster out there.

And being a basic laborer in a fantasy realm means knowing little tidbits of universally useful cantrips.

Plus he's just a good brawler.

Anyway, his greatest dream was to just help his more adventurous buddies to have their adventures. You know. Carry their stuff, be useful.

He's the one that the Hand of Destiny bonded itself to.

It's so great to see the horror on a character's face when he realizes he's going to have to be important.

I SO want to game with you guys...but its a bit far to commute. And I really don't think my boss will accept that kind of time off for gaming.

Have fun with it anyways!!

I miss tabletop sometimes, but it's really all about a good group of friends, telling a story, and the crazy conversation that goes with it.

It's what it comes down to. I do more online text these days and WoW just can't compete with what that gives me.

Compared to a virtual room filled with delicious words, dripping metaphors, with backdrop commentary on ...er. I can't even categorize it, it's so wonderfully crazy? *grins*

Compared to a nonvirtual room filled with laughter and Cheetos, spontaneous table jumpment and declaring the vacuum cleaner the greatest villain of all time?

WoW fails.
