I am home from the con! My daughter has strep and appears to have given it to the entire family. Welcome back, Mommy! Lol. :)
Word of the Day
abulia, n. 1. an abnormal lack of ability to act or to make decisions.
There’s a word for this? Yes, apparently, it is a medical term; etymology reports “it was created to name a severe medical disorder that can render a person nearly inert.”
Daughter at 4 Years
…was making up a story with me in the doctor’s office while we were waiting for the results of her throat culture. I would start a sentence, and then she would end it for me. In this way I discovered that there were two tigers who decided they wanted to go on vacation… to the beach… where they found a pail and shovel. When they started digging, they found a dinosaur bone and a treasure chest, which had gold in it. They took it home with them and put it in a bigger special tiger treasure chest, and after that decided to go for a walk to the park, where they found a bunch of children.
At this point I said, “And the children shouted AHHHHHHH and ran away screaming! Because that’s what’s smart to do when you see a tiger. So what happens next?”
She determined that the tigers were hungry, so I asked her what they should eat. To which she replied, “The children!” (Of course, Mommy!)
“But that would be horrible!” I said. “Maybe the tigers tried to eat the children and they all ran away?”
“No, they really DID eat the children!” she replied cheerfully and bloodthirstily.
“Are you serious?” I asked, incredulous, but I couldn’t help laughing. “You want the tigers to eat the children?”
“MOMMY!” she said, laughing. “It’s just a STORY! They’re not REAL children!”
“Well, all right then,” I said. “So the tigers ate the children…”
“…and then they were full,” Child concluded.
“And lived happily ever after with their tiger treasure,” I said.
“Yes,” she agreed, satisfied.
“I don’t know if I like this story!” I said, laughing.
“Mommy!” she assured me, hopping from square to square on the examination room’s floor. “It wasn’t REAL!”
Maybe Mommy is a little oversensitive about these things. Either that, or Child is quite a bit more blase about child-eating tigers. -_-
Audiobook is still processing; we are 1/3rd of the way toward a Wednesday Black Blossom; I have started scanning and posting the Kickstarter doodles, and am gathering up steam on that project now. The Godkin ebook edition is cooking, and hopefully will go up early next week (at least in kindle form).
I am also pondering a couple of extra chapters on top of the extra chapters I’ve already done for the now-postponed-to-next-year art business book.
Quote of the Day
Hate is not the first enemy of love. Fear is. It destroys your ability to trust. (Unknown?)
