Word of the Day
supercilious, adj. 1. coolly and patronizingly haughty.
Derives, astonishingly, from the Latin supercilium, “eyebrow.” Perhaps because haughty people are always raising them. For a while, it was used as a synonym for “superciliary,” (“of, or relating to, or adjoining the eyebrow”), but it lost that sense after the 18th century. The etymology source does say that this explains “what ornithologist John Latham meant in 1782 when he described a “Supercilious Kingfisher” with a narrow orange stripe over its eyes.”
Wiki Page of the Day
I am actually quietly updating stuff on the wiki, but nothing serious enough to link to right now.
The Art Business Project
…hit the halfway mark yesterday! Accordingly, there is an update to celebrate.
Daughter at 4 Years
Running out of her grandmother’s room with a Play-doh ring in her hand, Daughter stopped short at the sight of both of her parents standing in the kitchen.
“I’m going to do EENIE MEENIE to see who gets this delicious donut!” she proclaimed, holding it up. She pointed. “EENIE MEENIE—Iiiiii’m going to cut it!”
And then she dashed back into her grandmother’s room in pursuit, apparently, of fairness.
RL is… pretty seriously impinging on just about everything. But I am dragging through the to-do list anyway. If you have paid for something and are expecting mail, it’s going out today! Many apologies for the delay. Which brings me to: three of you wanted vials of the angel-scent, but I appear to have payment from only two of you… are the rest of you still interested?
Black Blossom went up today, also, and we are pretty close to a Friday post, so we’ll see if that goes up.
