Pony Frustration

I really like the rebooted My Little Pony. I think the writing is often funny and clever and good-hearted. Which is why the misandry that leaks into the scripts—some episodes more obviously than others—is getting very, very frustrating. In some places, the messages are positively appalling: is it really necessary for Rarity to demonstrate that ‘standing up for yourself’ involves manipulating men into giving you what you want by batting your lashes at them? And let’s not even get into the episodes where boys, once they grow up, are shown to be destructive and “grabby.”

Can we really not have a show that’s empowering for women without dissing men? These are not the lessons I want my daughter to pick up from popular culture. I am disappoint. :/
